Invisalign Q&A
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a patented teeth-straightening system that uses a series of clear plastic aligner trays to gently move your teeth into optimal positioning. It’s a great alternative to traditional metal braces, and it’s a popular option among teens and men and women of all ages.
Invisalign can address many of the same alignment problems as traditional braces. Some of the cases Invisalign can treat include:
- Overbite
- Underbite
- Crossbite
- Open bite
- General misalignment
- Crowding
- Mix of permanent and baby teeth
While Invisalign is an incredibly versatile tool, there are cases where metal braces offer a better treatment path. Dr. Rostami will discuss your needs during your one-on-one consultation.
How does Invisalign work?
The process begins with an exam to determine if Invisalign is right for you. Digital imaging collects data about your current alignment, and the proprietary software maps out a treatment plan crafted just for you.
If you decide to move forward with Invisalign, you’ll return when your first set of aligners are ready. You’ll wear each set of trays for around two weeks, then swap them out for the next set
Periodically, you’ll come in for Dr. Rostami to evaluate your progress, and to pick up your next set of aligners. These clear plastic trays place gentle pressure on your teeth, moving them into proper alignment.
How long do I wear my aligners each day?
In order for Invisalign to perform as intended, it’s important that you wear your aligners around the clock. Remove them only to perform your oral hygiene routines and while eating.
It’s normal for your teeth to feel sore for a couple of days after you switch to new aligner trays, just like your teeth are sore after having new wires placed in metal braces. This sensation will subside quickly. Remember, the more time you leave your aligners out, the longer your overall treatment plan will last.
